(Category-A) ADMISSION THROUGH ENTRANCE EXAMINATION

The University will hold Entrance Examination on May 17, 18, 19 and 20, 2010 for admission to various full-time programmes of study at the following 51 cities: Agartala, Ahmedabad, Aizawl, Allahabad, Amritsar, Bangalore, Bareilly, Bhubaneshwar, Calicut, Chandigarh, Chennai, Coimbatore, Dehradun, Delhi, Dimapur, Gangtok, Guwahati, Goa, Gorakhpur, Gwalior, Hyderabad, Imphal, Indore, Itanagar, Jaipur, Jammu, Katihar, Kolkata, Lucknow, Madurai, Mumbai, Nagpur, Noida, Pant Nagar, Patna, Pondicherry, Pune, Raipur, Ranchi, Sambalpur, Secunderabad, Shillong, Shimla, Silchar, Siliguri, Srinagar, Thiruvananthapuram, Udaipur, Varanasi, Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam. Schools and programmes of study : I. School of International Studies


(A) M.PHIL/Ph.D. in : International Politics, International Organisation, Diplomacy and Disarmament, Political Geography; International Legal Studies; International Trade and Development; South Asian, Central Asian, Southeast Asian & Southwest Pacific Studies; Chinese, Japanese & Korean Studies; West Asian Studies, African Studies; Canadian, United States and Latin American Studies; European Studies; and Russian & Central Asian Studies.

Eligibility :(a) For International Politics, International Organisation, Diplomacy & Disarmament and Political Geography: Master’s degree in Political Science, History, Economics, Geography, Sociology, Defence/Strategic Studies, International Relations and Area Studies with at least 50% marks or Master’s degree in Humanities and other Social Sciences with at least 60% marks or Master’s degree in Natural Sciences with at least 65% marks. (b) For International Legal Studies: LL.B. (Three Year) degree after Bachelor’s degree with at least 55% marks or an LL.B. (Five year) degree with at least 55% marks in the aggregate or an M.A. with International Law as one of the subjects with at least 55% marks in the aggregate or an LL.M. degree with at least 50% marks in the aggregate. (c) For International Trade & Development: Masters's degree in Economics with at least 50% marks and familiarity with Mathematics and Statistics up to Bachelor’s level. (d) For South Asian, Central Asian, Southeast Asian & Southwest Pacific Studies: Master’s degree in Political Science, History, Economics, Geography, Sociology, Defence Studies, International Relations and Area Studies with at least 50% marks or Master’s degree in Humanities and other Social Sciences with at least 60% marks or Master’s degree in Natural Sciences with at least 65% marks. (e) For Canadian, US and Latin American Studies: Master’s degree in Political Science, History, Economics, Sociology, Defence/Strategic Studies, International Relations with at least 50% marks or Master’s degree in Natural Sciences with at least 60% marks. (f) For all other Disciplines: Master’s degree in Political Science, History, Economics, International Relations and Area Studies with at least 50% marks or Master’s degree in Humanities and other Social Sciences with at least 60% marks or Master’s degree in Natural Sciences with at least 65% marks.

(B) M.A. in : Politics (with specialization in International Relations)

Eligibility : Bachelor’s degree in any discipline under 10+2+3 pattern of education with at least 50% marks.

(C) M.A. in : Economics (with specialization in World Economy)

Eligibility : Bachelor’s degree in any of the following disciplines: Economics(Honours)/Economics(with either Mathematics or Statistics as a subject)/Mathematics(Honours)/Statistics(Honours)/Physics(Honours)/ Bachelor of Technology under 10+2+3 (or equivalent) pattern of education with at least 50% marks in aggregate.



II. School of Language, Literature and Culture Studies

(A) M.Phil./Ph.D. in : French, German, Arabic, Russian, Persian, Chinese, Urdu, Hindi, Tamil, Hindi Translation, English, Linguistics, Japanese and Spanish.

Eligibility : (i) For M.Phil./Ph.D. in Languages/Subjects other than English, Linguistics and Hindi Translation: Master’s degree in the concerned language/subject with at least 50% marks. (ii) For M.Phil./Ph.D. in English: Master's Degree in English or Linguistics or Sociology or History or Political Science or Philosophy or Folklore or Film & Communication Studies or Culture Studies or Comparative Literature with at least 50% marks. (iii) For M. Phil/Ph.D. in Linguistics: Master's Degree in Linguistics or Psychology or Sociology or Folklore or Culture Studies or any Language or M.Sc. in Speech & Hearing or Computer Science Engineering or MCA with at least 50% marks. (iv) For M. Phil/Ph.D. in Hindi Translation: Master's degree in Hindi with 50% marks and English or any Indian language as one of the subject at B.A. level other than Hindi or Master's degree in any Indian/ Foreign language with 50% marks and Hindi as one of the subject at B. A. level.


(B) M.Phil. in Portuguese

Eligibility :Master's degree in Portuguese with at least 50% marks or Master's degree in any other Romance Language (Italian, Spanish, French, Romanian) or in English with atleast 50% marks and an Advanced Diploma in Portuguese with atleast 50% marks.



(C) M.A. in: arabic, chinese, English, french, german, hindi, Japanese, KOREAN, linguistics, persian, russian, spanish and urdu.

Eligibility : Bachelor’s degree in any discipline under 10+2+3 pattern of education with at least 45% marks with adequate proficiency in the concerned language.

(D) B.A. (HONS.) in : arabic, chinese, french, german, japanese, korean, persian, russian and spanish (with entry points TO both 1st and 2nd Year).

Eligibility :(ia) For B.A. (Hons.) : (1st Year) : Senior School Certificate (10+2) or equivalent examination with at least 45% marks.

(ib) Certificates of Alimiah and Molvi issued by some Madrasas with at least 45% marks. Names of the Madrasas are detailed in the Prospectus.

(ii) For B.A. (Hons.) : (2nd Year) : First year of Bachelor's degree or an examination recognised as equivalent thereto with at least 45% marks under 10+2+3 pattern of education with adequate proficiency in the concerned language.


III. School of Social Sciences

(A) M.Phil./PH.D. Programme is offered by the following Centres which have their curricular and research work organized on interdisciplinary basis with a focus on some major problems of study:

Centres : Economic Studies and Planning ; Historical Studies; Political Studies; Regional Development (Geography, Economics and Population Studies); Social Systems (Sociology); Educational Studies (Psychology, Sociology, Economics and History of Education); Social Medicine and Community Health; Philosophy and Studies in Science Policy.

Eligibility : (a) For Centre for Studies in Science Policy: Master’s degree in Social Science or Humanities or Law or Management with 55% marks or Master’s degree in Natural Sciences or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Technology or Medicine with 60% marks. (b) For Centre of Social Medicine & Community Health: Master's degree in social sciences or other disciplines allied to public health with 50% marks. (c) For all other Centres: Master's degree in the subject concerned with at least 50% marks or Master's degree in allied subjects or Humanities with at least 55% marks or Master's degree in Natural Sciences with at least 60% marks.



(B) MPh/Ph.D. (Master of Public Health)

Eligibility : mbbs Degree with atleast 50% marks and atleast one year's work experience after internship; or M.Sc. Degree in Nursing with atleast 50% marks and atleast one year's experience in Community Health Nursing.



(C) M.A. in : Economics, Geography, History, Political Science and Sociology

Eligibility : (a) For M.A. in History, Political Science, Geography and Sociology: Bachelor’s degree in any discipline under 10+2+3 pattern of education with at least 45% marks. (b) For M.A. in Economics: Bachelor's degree in any discipline under 10+2+3 pattern of education with at least 50% marks, and Mathematics either at 10+2 level or at Bachelor's level, either as subsidiary or as honours.



IV. School of Life Sciences

(A) M.Phil./Ph.D. in areas of interdisciplinary research in molecular Biology, genetic engineering, plant biotechnology, genetics, developmental biology, cell biology, immunology, neurobiology, microbiology, radiation and cancer biology, bio-physics and structural biology.

Eligibility : M. Sc. or equivalent degree, with at least 55% marks or equivalent grades, in Biological Sciences, Bioinformatics or Physical Sciences, as well as to those with M.B.B.S or M. Tech. or M. Sc. (Agriculture) or M. Sc. (Veterinary Sciences) degree with 55% marks. Candidates having the M. Sc. or equivalent degree in allied subjects of Life Sciences, including Biochemistry, Biophysics, Biotechnology, Botany, Genetics, Microbiology, Pharmacology, Physiology, Zoology, or in Chemistry or Physics with 55% marks are also eligible.



(B) M.Sc. in Life Sciences : An integrated interdisciplinary programme in Modern Biology.

Eligibility : Bachelor’s (B. Sc. or B Tech or equivalent) in Biological, Physical or Agricultural Sciences under the 10+2+3 pattern of education with at least 55% marks.


V. School of Environmental Sciences

(A) M.Phil./Ph.D. in environmental sciences including interdisciplinary areas of biology(Ecology, biotechnology, biophysics, bioremediation), chemistry (Air, Water, Soil pollution), geology and physics.

Eligibility : M.Sc. degree or equivalent in any branch of basic or applied science or MBBS or B.Tech./B.E. with minimum 55% marks.



(B) M.Sc. in environmental sciences : an interdisciplinary course with environmental orientation, drawn from relevant areas of biological, chemical, earth and physical sciences.

Eligibility : Bachelor’s degree in any branch of basic or applied science under 10+2+3 pattern of education with at least 55% marks.



VI. School of Computer & Systems Sciences




The school offers academic programmes leading to the degrees in computer science and technology

(A) M.Phil./Ph.D. & M.Tech/Ph.D.

Eligibility : Master's degree in Computer Science or Mathematics or Statistics or Operational Research or in any branch of Science or Bachelor's degree in any branch of Engineering or Master of Computer Applications (MCA) with at least 55% marks.



(B) M.C.A. (Master of Computer Applications) : 3 year programme open to candidates with adequate competence in mathematics.

Eligibility : Bachelor’s degree in any discipline with adequate competence in Mathematics under 10+2+3 pattern of education with at least 55% marks.



VII. School of Physical Sciences

(A) Pre-Ph.D./ph.d. in Physical Sciences/Chemical Sciences/Mathematical Sciences. the emphasis is on topics of Chemical Physics, Computational Physics, Disordered Systems, Granular Materials, Mathematical Physics, Non-equilibrium Statistical Mechanics, Nonlinear Dynamics, Quantum Chaos, Quantum Magnetism and Strongly Correlated Systems, Quantum Optics, Statistical Nuclear Physics. Experimental areas include Complex Fluids, Materials Science, Superconductivity, Magnetism, Nonlinear Optics, Semiconductors, Polymers and Nanoparticle Physics.

Eligibility : (a) For Physical Sciences, M.Sc. degree in Physics, Chemistry or Mathematics, with at least 55% marks. Candidates having majored in Physics or Chemistry should have had Mathematics at least up to the B.Sc. level. Exceptions can be made in case of applicants with B.Tech. (Electronics/Electrical) degrees provided they successfully qualify the entrance examination. (b) For Chemical Sciences, M.Sc. degree in Chemistry or Physics, with at least 55% marks. Candidates majoring in Chemistry should have specialization in Organic/Inorganic/Physical Chemistry/Chemical Physics at the Master’s level. (c) For Mathematical Sciences, M.Sc. degree in Mathematics, with at least 55% marks.



(B) M.Sc. in Physics

Eligibility : Bachelor’s degree (with Physics as one of the subjects) under the 10+2+3 pattern of education with 55% marks in the aggregate (or in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics combined), or in Physics Honours.

VIII. School of Arts & Aesthetics

(A) M.Phil./Ph.D.: The School offers M.Phil./Ph.D. programme in three different streams - Visual Studies, Theatre and Performance Studies and Cinema Studies. (Admission to the M.Phil./Ph.D. is through a separate entrance examination for each discipline followed by a viva-voce.)

Eligibility: Master's degree in any discipline with at least 50% marks.



(b) M.A. in Arts & Aesthetics: The School offers M.A. programme with cross disciplinary study of the Visual, Cinematic and Performing Arts.

Eligibility : Bachelor's degree under 10+2+3 pattern of education with at least 50% marks.


IX. School of Information Technology

Pre-Ph.D/Ph.D in Computational Biology and Bioinformatics

ELIGIBILITY: (a) Master’s Degree in any branch of Sciences such as Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, Computer Science/MCA. (b) MBBS or BHMS or equivalent degree as recognized by Government Council such as MCI. (c) B.Tech or B.E. or equivalent degree in any branch of Engineering, B.Pharm degree or equivalent.Common to all three categories is a minimum requirement of 55% marks.



(B) M.Tech. in computational and systems biology

Eligibility: (a) Master’s Degree in any branch of Sciences including Biological, Chemical, Mathematical, Physical, Statistics, Computer Sciences/MCA. (b) MBBS or BHMS or equivalent degree as recognized by Government Council such as MCI. (c) B.Tech. or B.E. or equivalent degree in any branch of Engineering, B.Pharm degree or equivalent. Common to all three categories is a minimum requirement of 55% marks and Mathematics till class XII is compulsory.



X. SCHOOL OF Biotechnology







Pre-Ph.D./ph.d. in areas of Gene Transfer and Expression in Eukaryotic system, Transcription Control and Gene Regulation, Protein Engineering, Molecular Biology of Infectious Diseases, Molecular Immunology, Protein folding and Stability, Optimization of Recombinant Protein Production, Structural Biology & Molecular Bioinformatics, and Biochemical Engineering, Molecular virology, cancer biology, molecular cell biology.

Eligibility : Master’s Degree in Biotechnology, Biochemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics or any branch of Physical or Biological or Engineering Sciences with atleast 55% marks.



XI. Centre for Sanskrit Studies

(A) M.Phil./PH.D. in Sanskrit

ELIGIBILITY: Master’s degree in Sanskrit or in an allied subject (with Sanskrit up to B.A. level) with at least 55% marks.



(B) M.A. in Sanskrit

Eligibility : Bachelor's Degree in Sanskrit or in any other subject under 10+2+3 pattern of education with at least 45% marks.



XII. Centre for Molecular Medicine

Pre-Ph.D/Ph.D in Areas of Metobolic Disorders, Infectious and non-infectious Diseases, Diagnostics and MOLECULAR ENDOCRINOLOGY

Eligibility : Master’s degree or equivalent of recognized University/Institution in any branch of biological sciences/MBBS/ BVSc./B.Pharm. or equivalent with at least 55% marks.



XIII. Centre for the Study of Law and Governance

M.PHIL./PH.D. IN LAW AND GOVERNANCE

ELIGIBILITY: Master’s degree in Political Science, Public Administration, Economics, Sociology, History, Philosophy or Law with 55% marks; or 60% in any branch of natural science. Eligibility in Law may be read as: LLB (Three Year) degree after Bachelor's degree with at least 55% marks or an LL.B. (Five Year) degree with at least 55% marks in the aggregate or an LL.M degree with at least 50% marks in the aggregate.

(Category-B) DIRECT ADMISSIONS TO PH.D. PROGRAMME



The University admits a limited number of candidates directly to Ph.D. programme either on the basis of viva-voce or written examination and viva-voce both as may be decided by the University both in Monsoon and Winter Semesters in all Schools/Centres (except Life Sciences). In addition direct admission to Ph.D. is also offered in Group of Political Theory and Comparative Politics (International Relations), Adult Education, Women's Studies and Study of Discrimination and Exclusion. Candidates are required to check the availability of seats in each Centre/School before applying for admission in Winter Semester. Candidates are advised to refer to the admission announcement being notified separately.


(Category-C) ADMISSION OF JRF HOLDERS to M.PHIL./PH.D. AND PRE-PH.D./Ph.D. PROGRAMME IN SCIENCE SCHOOLS



The University admits a limited number of candidates to M.Phil./Ph.D. and Pre-Ph.D./Ph.D. programmes either on the basis of viva-voce or written examination and viva-voce both as may be decided by the University who have qualified a National Test entitling them to a JRF in Schools of Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Computer & Systems Sciences, Information Technology and Biotechnology.



Eligibility: Only those candidates who fulfil the minimum eligibility requirements as prescribed for admission of candidates to M.Phil./Ph.D. and Pre-Ph.D. programmes through Entrance Examination under category A above in above Science Schools/Centres and have qualified a National Test entitling them to a JRF are eligible to apply.

(Category-D) PART-TIME PROGRAMMES

University will hold Entrance Examination (in Delhi Centre only) for admission to Certificate of Proficiency and Advanced Diploma in Mass Media in Urdu one-year Part-Time Programmes of Study in the School of Language, Literature & Culture Studies. Since these are Part-Time programmes, these are intended for candidates residing in Delhi NCR only. Admission to Diploma of Proficiency and Advanced Diploma of Proficiency will be made on basis of the past academic record of the candidate which will be assessed in accordance with the criteria laid down by the University for selection.



PROGRAMMES OF STUDY : 1) Advanced Diploma in Mass Media in Urdu, 2) Advanced Diploma of Proficiency in Pushto, 3) Diploma of Proficiency in Pushto and Bahasa Indonesia, 4) Certificate of Proficiency in Italian, Mongolian, Pustho, Bahasa Indonesia and Urdu.



Eligibility: 1. Advanced Diploma in Mass Media in Urdu : A Bachelor's Degree under 10 + 2 + 3 pattern of education with at least 45% marks in aggregate with Urdu as one of the subjects at High School or Intermediate or B.A. Level. 2. Advanced Diploma of Proficiency: Senior School Certificate, (10+2) or equivalent with at least 45% marks in aggregate and Diploma of Proficiency in language concerned. 3. Diploma of Proficiency : Senior School Certificate (10+2) or equivalent with at least 45% marks in aggregate and Certificate of Proficiency in the language concerned. 4. Certificate of Proficiency: Senior School Certificate (10+2) or equivalent with at least 45% marks in aggregate.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Foreign Nationals: All foreign nationals present in India are required to appear in the Entrance Examination subject to their fulfilling minimum eligibility requirements as prescribed for Indian students as indicated under Category 'A' above. However, in the event of their selection, they will be considered for admission subject to equivalence of their degrees as per eligibility requirements.


Reservation of seats : 27% seats are reserved for OBC candidates (non creamy layer). 15% and 7.5% of seats are reserved for SC/ST candidates respectively in all programmes of study. 3% seats are reserved for Physically Challenged (Handicapped) candidates (with a minimum of 40% disability). All SC, ST and Physically Challenged (Handicapped) candidates who have passed and/or are appearing in the qualifying examination are eligible to appear in the entrance examination irrespective of their percentage of marks.



Besides, all candidates who have passed qualifying examination prescribed for admission to the concerned programme of study from the identified backward districts, will be eligible for deprivation points. All Kashmiri migrants and wards/widows of certain categories of Defence Personnel will be eligible for deprivation points subject to their submitting a documentary evidence of their status (For details, refer to Chapter V of Prospectus). All female candidates are also eligible for deprivation points. Only those candidates will be eligible for deprivation points as stated above who seek admission through Entrance Examination.



Please note that: There is a different Application Form for each Category i.e. Category 'A' and Category 'D' (Admission through Entrance Examination), Category 'B' (Direct Admission to Ph.D. programmes) and Category 'C' (Admission of JRF holders). Candidates should therefore clearly indicate on the self addressed envelope, the Category for which the Application Form is required by them.



For admission through Entrance Examination under Category-A above and Certificate of Proficiency (Part-Time Programme) under Category-D above, candidates can opt upto a maximum of three Fields of Study in a single Application Form for the same level of Programmes i.e. COP(Part-Time) or B.A. (Hons.) (1st Year) or M.A./M.Sc./MCA or M.Phil/Ph.D.,Pre-Ph.D./Ph.D., M.Tech./Ph.D., M.P.H./Ph.D., and are not required to submit separate Application Forms for each field of study. In case a candidate submits more than one Application Form for the same level of programmes of study, his/her candidature will be rejected. However, this restriction will not apply to candidates who apply for Direct Admision to Ph.D. programme under Category-B above, JRF holders to M.Phil./Ph.D. and Pre-Ph.D./Ph.D. programmes under Category-C above and Diploma/Advanced Diploma of Proficiency (Part-Time Programmes) under Category-D above. Candidates are required to submit separate Application Form for each Field of Study for admission to B.A. (Hons.) 2nd Year under category A above, Direct Admision to Ph.D. programme under Category-B above, JRF holders to M.Phil/Ph.D. and Pre-Ph.D./Ph.D. under Category-C above and for Diploma and Advanced Diploma (Part-Time) programmes under Category-D above.



How to apply : Sets of Application Form and Prospectus can be obtained either (i) through post by sending crossed Bank Draft (valid for six months) for Rs. 300/- drawn in favour of Jawaharlal Nehru University payable at New Delhi alongwith a self-addressed (unstamped) envelope of the minimum size of 30 cms X 25 cms. clearly indicating the Category for which the Application Form is required on the self-addressed envelope to the Section Officer (Admissions), Room No. 28, Administrative Block, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi-110067. Candidates seeking Application Form and Prospectus from Nepal are required to send a bank draft of Indian Rs.400/- or equivalent in US Dollars. Money Orders and Cheques are not accepted. Please do not send your request through private courier services; or (ii) in person from the Counter in the Administrative Block of the Univeristy on cash payment of Rs. 200/- per set from 10.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. and from 2.00 p.m. to 4.00 p.m. on all working days (Monday to Friday). BPL card holders will be issued a set of application form & prospectus free of cost on submissiion of a copy of the BPL card issued by the competent authority showing their name in the card.

Note:



Candidates who are due to appear in respective qualifying examination prescribed for eligibility for admission to a particular programme are also eligible to appear in the entrance examination. In the event of their selection, they will be admitted only if their results of the qualifying examination are declared before 16th August, 2010 and they fulfil the minimum eligibility requirements as prescribed in the prospectus.

The University does not offer correspondence courses.

While the University, on its part, shall ensure timely despatch of Application Forms soon after receipt of the request from intending candidates, it will, however, not accept responsibility for any postal delay or irregularity or loss in postal transit.

Any dispute with regard to any matter relating to admission shall be subject to the jurisdiction of Delhi Courts only.

CSIR Programme on Youth for Leadership in Science (CPYLS) (Since 1999)


Eligibility/Qualification/age : Top 50 science students of CBSE, ICSE and State Boards in Class X examination
Normal time for application : After the Class X results are announced, the eligible students are contacted by the CSIR labs
Amount/Stipend/Grant : Traveling allowance to visit CSIR labs and facilities to carry out project work at CSIR lab is provided
Tenure : Hand holding up to graduation level

CSIR Diamond Jubilee Research Interns Awards (Since 2003)

Eligibility/Qualification/age : Ist Class BE/BTech/BArch/BPharm/MSc/MBBS degree; Age limit:25 years
Normal time for application : As per advertisement by CSIR labs
Amount/Stipend/Grant :Rs. 7500/- pm (fixed)
Tenure : 2 years

Junior Research Fellowship(JRF) (through NET, Since 1983)

Eligibility/Qualification/age : MSc (55%), 50% for SC/ST;
Age limit: 28yrs
Normal time for application : Twice a year, in response to advertisement in Employment News in Feb/ Aug
Amount/Stipend/Grant :Rs. 8000/-pm with annual contingency grant of Rs. 20,000/-
Tenure : 5 years, upgraded to SRF after 2 years

JRF-GATE (Since 2002)

Eligibility/Qualification/age : BE/BTech/BArch/BPharm or ME/MTech (last semester) with valid GATE score;
Age limit: 28yrs
Normal time for application : As per advertisement by individual CSIR labs
Amount/Stipend/Grant :Rs. 8000/-pm with annual contingency grant of Rs. 20,000/-
Tenure : 5 years, upgraded to SRF after 2 years

Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee (SPM) Fellowship (Since 2001)

Eligibility/Qualification/age : Top 20% of NET qualified candidates of the preceding year or GATE qualified candidates with valid score of 99 + percentile
Normal time for application : Once a year Examination on 2nd Sunday of July every year
Amount/Stipend/Grant : Rs. 12,000/- pm; upgraded to Rs.15,000/-pm after two years with annual contingency grant of Rs. 50,000/-
Tenure : 5 years

Entrepreneur-ship Support to Research Scholars (Since 2004)

Eligibility/Qualification/age : Research fellow working in CSIR labs with atleast 2 years research experience.
Normal time for application : Selection through screening committee
Amount/Stipend/Grant : No course fees, free Boarding & lodging
Tenure : 20-30 days

Senior Research Fellowship (SRF) (Since 1950)

Eligibility/Qualification/age : 1st class MSc/BE/BTech with 2 years research experience or MPharm/MVSc with one year experience or MBBS/BDS with one year internship or BPharm/ BVSc with 3 years experience or ME/MTech or equivalent degrees; Age limit: 32 years
Normal time for application : Advertised in Employment News twice a year
Amount/Stipend/Grant : Basic Sciences : Rs. 9000/- pm; Engineering and Medical Sciences: Rs. 9500/- pm with annual contingency grant of Rs. 20,000/- for all
Tenure : 3/4 years; total JRF + SRF tenure: 5 years

Research Associateship (RA) (Since 1950)

Eligibility/Qualification/age : PhD having research publications; ME/MTech MPharm having three years experience; MD/MS/MDS with good academic record;
Age limit: 35 years
Normal time for application : Advertised in Employment News twice a year
Amount/Stipend/Grant : Rs. 11000/-pm or Rs. 11500/-pm or Rs. 12000/-pm with annual contingency grant of Rs. 20,000/- for all

Senior Research Associateship (SRA-Scientist Pool) (Since 1958)

Eligibility/Qualification/age : PhD, MTech , MD /MS with 2 years research/ teaching experience and publication(s);
Age limit : 40 years
Normal time for application : Any time of the year
Amount/Stipend/Grant : Basic Rs. 8,000/- to Rs. 10,325/- plus allowances
Tenure : 3 years

Emeritus Scientist (Since 1958)

Eligibility/Qualification/age : Eminent Superannuated Scientists/Technologists
Normal time for application : Any time of the year
Amount/Stipend/Grant : Rs. 10,000/- pm (honorarium); a suitable contingency grant & a Research Fellow /Associate
Tenure : 3 years; extendable by 2 more years upto 65 years of age

Visiting Associateship (Since 1989)

Eligibility/Qualification/age : Middle level scientists from Universities/R&D units in industries
Normal time for application : Any time of the year
Amount/Stipend/Grant : TA & DA for two visits to a CSIR lab upto 60 days in a year
Tenure : 3 years

Funding of Research Schemes (Since 1943)

Eligibility/Qualification/age : Faculty/Scientists employed in universities, research institutions and R&D units
Normal time for application : Any time of the year
Amount/Stipend/Grant : Normally up to Rs. 12 lakhs
Tenure : Usually 3 years

Funding of Sponsored Research Schemes (Since 1993)

Eligibility/Qualification/age : Faculty/Scientists employed in universities, research institutions and R&D units Tie up with CSIR labs is a requirement
Normal time for application : Any time of the year
Amount/Stipend/Grant :Varies, up to Rs. 25 lakhs
Tenure : Usually 3 years

Grant for Journals

Eligibility/Qualification/age : Only journals brought out in Indian languages with the sole objective of popularizing science
Normal time for application : Any time of the year
Amount/Stipend/Grant : Normally varies between Rs. 10,000/- and Rs. 1,00,000/- per annum
Tenure : Year to year basis

Travel Grant (Since 1981)

Eligibility/Qualification/age : Research Fellows/Associates, whose papers have been accepted for presentation in international conferences

Grant for holding Symposium/Seminar (Since 1962)

Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize (SSB) (Since 1957)

Biotechnology Industry Partnership Programme (BIPP)

An Advanced Futuristic Technology Programme (ATS) to support Discovery and Innovation in Industry



The Government approved launching of a new scheme on Biotechnology Industry Partnership Programme (BIPP) - An Advanced Technology Scheme (ATS), envisaged as a government partnership programme with industries for support on cost sharing basis for high risk discovery and innovation, accelerated technology development specially for futuristic areas. This new scheme will be one of the most enabling mechanisms to promote biotech industry R&D and public private partnership programmes. The scheme provides for a government contribution of 30-50% to the industry for discovery linked innovation. Under this advanced technology scheme, support would be provided only for futuristic areas, transformational technology and product development for public good. Grant in aid support would also be provided for evaluation and validation of biotechnology products that are based on indigenous discovery and innovation. The scheme will support major research facilities and platform technology centers as core facilities that are readily accessible to SME’s and public sector scientists.
